Nebraska Weather: EF-3 Tornado Strikes North Douglas and Southeast Washington Counties
On April 17, 2025, an EF-3 tornado devastated houses and structures in North Douglas and Southeast Washington counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that the tornado, which raged from 6:55 PM to 7:15 PM CDT, had estimated peak winds of 140 mph.
The storm’s trail was 8.3 miles long and up to 170 yards wide. According to preliminary damage estimates, extensive destruction has occurred, especially in residential areas. As of the most recent NWS update, no fatalities have been recorded; however, local officials are still determining the full extent of the disaster.
In Nebraska, where severe weather may produce high-intensity twisters, this tornado is typical of spring storms. While recovery activities continue, residents in impacted regions are asked to exercise caution and adhere to local safety guidelines.
