Severe Weather Alert: Thunderstorms to Impact State from 7 PM to Midnight
Illinois is expected to see severe thunderstorms tonight, with the most significant risk between 7 p.m. and midnight. Areas around the state might be affected by destructive hail, high gusts, and heavy rain, according to a warning from the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service predicts that some severe thunderstorms will start to form this afternoon, with the primary hazard occurring later in the evening. Lightning, torrential rain, and the potential for hail up to two inches in diameter are all possible during these storms. The fiercest storms can displace outdoor objects and harm tree limbs, posing a risk to everyone outside during the storm.
Up to 45 mph is the projected speed of the storm system as it moves east-northeast. While places farther north, including Madison, Wisconsin, and portions of southern Wisconsin, may witness less extreme activity, cities like Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, and Champaign are expected to suffer the worst.
The National Weather Service recommends that locals use several sources of weather information to be informed and to drive carefully, whether it’s raining or windy.
