Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Multiple Counties in West Virginia

Effective until 10 AM EDT on Saturday, April 12, 2025, a dense fog advisory has been issued for several West Virginia and Virginia counties. The caution says that driving conditions might be dangerous because of limited visibility to a quarter mile or less.

The NWS reports that the advisory is in effect for the following counties in West Virginia: McDowell, Wyoming, Southeast Raleigh, Southeast Fayette, Southeast Nicholas, Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, and Southeast Randolph, which includes the cities of Mullens, War, Pineville, and Beckley.

Mercer, Summers, and Western Greenbrier counties in West Virginia and Tazewell County in Virginia are also under a second advisory. This alert includes cities such as Tazewell, Rainelle, and Bluefield.

According to the weather service, the thick fog is most likely to be located across ridge tops at or above 2,500 feet in height. Drivers are encouraged to use headlights, slow down, and keep a distance from other vehicles to prevent accidents.
