Illinois Tornado Watch: La Salle Counties Under Threat Until 4 AM Monday
As intense storms continue to move over the area, a tornado watch has been issued for portions of northern and central Illinois, including Kankakee, La Salle, and Livingston counties, through 4 a.m. CDT Monday.
Tornado Watch 157, which encompasses Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, La Salle, Lee, and Livingston counties, was issued shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service. The main dangers are large hail, destructive winds, and sporadic nocturnal tornadoes.
With their iPhones charged and NOAA weather radios turned on, residents in these locations should be vigilant of the weather throughout the night. Travel is advised, particularly on rural roadways like IL-17 and U.S. Route 52, where visibility can quickly diminish.
Emergency management authorities have activated storm spotter networks in counties like Grundy and Iroquois. Similar nocturnal occurrences observed in late April 2023 are echoed by this watch, which is issued amid a highly active storm system across the Midwest.
Regional conditions are still unstable, and more warnings might be issued. Residents should be ready to seek cover if sirens ring or an alert is issued, as the tornado watch is in effect until 4 a.m.
