Kansas Weather Alert: Flood Watch in Effect for Winfield, Parsons, and Chanute Until Sunday Evening

Beginning Friday evening and lasting through Sunday night, a Flood Watch has been issued for much of South Central and Southeast Kansas, including Winfield, Parsons, and Chanute. Heavy rains from thunderstorms passing across the area might increase the likelihood of localized floods.

According to the Topeka National Weather Service office, the watch encompasses the counties of Cowley, Elk, Wilson, Neosho, Chautauqua, Montgomery, and Labette. According to forecasters, storms could dump two to four inches of rain on the area, boosting runoff into creeks, rivers, and regions vulnerable to flooding.

Those near rivers and low-lying regions are advised to prepare for possible floods. Throughout the weekend and overnight, drivers should stay vigilant for rising water levels and steer clear of water-covered highways. Emergency experts suggest monitoring the most recent projections and being prepared to respond if a flood warning is issued.

Forecasters warn that the amount and rate of anticipated rainfall may stress drainage systems, even if this weather pattern is consistent with typical spring circumstances. From 7 p.m. on Friday to 7 p.m. on Sunday, a flood watch is in effect. Follow the National Weather Service and local advisories for the most recent information.
