Kentucky Weather: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Likely Across Eastern Counties
With an 80% probability of rain, a powerful cold front is expected to pass over Eastern Kentucky on Monday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms.
The Jackson, Kentucky, National Weather Service predicts that rain will start to move in from the west in the morning and that there may be a few isolated thunderstorms by late afternoon. Before the rain arrives, temperatures will rise into the low 80s. Overnight, there is a decreased likelihood of rain, although stray showers are still possible south of the Hal Rogers Parkway and Mountain Parkway into Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Monday, there might be severe rainfall locally in places like Hazard, Prestonsburg, and Morehead, particularly during the evening commute. Travel on Tuesday morning might be dangerous due to the possibility of patchy fog developing overnight in valleys and low-lying areas. Partially sunny skies are expected on Tuesday, although the KY-80 corridor may potentially experience sporadic showers.
In the event of lightning, residents are advised to secure outside goods, stay off flooded roads, and pay attention to notifications. Monday night is predicted to be cooler with lows in the mid-40s in the south. By midweek, the likelihood of rain drastically decreases, but stray showers may form close to stalled fronts through Wednesday.
