Michigan Winter Weather Alert: Up to 8 Inches of Snow in Marquette by 2 PM Tuesday

Beginning Monday evening and lasting into Tuesday afternoon, a late-season snowfall is predicted to create dangerous travel conditions throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

According to the Marquette National Service, Baraga and Marquette counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 8 p.m. Monday through 2 p.m. Tuesday. Baraga County and the northern portions of Marquette County, which are not near Lake Superior, could see accumulations of up to 8 inches. Three inches or less are expected in areas east of M-95 and south of US-41.

The precipitation will be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts as high as 40 mph, which could result in patchy blowing snow and poor visibility throughout rush hour.

In the U.P., other warnings are in effect in Keweenaw, Gogebic, Houghton, Ontonagon, Alger, Luce, and Schoolcraft counties. Ironwood, Houghton, and Munising, among other northern municipalities, may anticipate 2 to 5 inches of snow, with gusts of up to 45 mph in certain places.

Drivers are advised to use caution as the roads may get slick, particularly during Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes. Residents should prepare for fallen branches due to strong winds and secure unsecured outdoor goods. It is recommended that drivers slow down during advisory hours and pay attention to local notifications.
