North Carolina Weather Alert: Frost Possible for Wednesday Night in Piedmont and Coastal Plain
A cold front approaching North Carolina Wednesday night could cause patchy frost in Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain sections, endangering gardens and delicate plants.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, wind gusts of 25-35 mph Tuesday afternoon indicate the coming of cold fronts, which will reduce nighttime temperatures into the 30s by late Wednesday. A patchy frost is probable, particularly in the state’s central and northeastern regions, including Durham, Rocky Mount, and Wilson. Residents in Nash, Franklin, and Edgecombe counties are encouraged to preserve susceptible plants, particularly in rural or low-lying regions where frost is more likely to accumulate. Though widespread frost is not forecast, isolated damage may occur if safeguards are not followed. This chilly wave comes after abnormally high temperatures earlier in the week, and it is one of the coldest snaps of the spring thus far. The risk is highest late Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
