Showers in the Forecast for the Weekend Across Tri-State
Some weekend sunlight would be a welcome change of pace after the weather was soggy and gloomy last weekend. Unfortunately, the outlook calls for additional rains. We will conclude the weekend positively, though, so it’s not all terrible news.
As early as Thursday night, the area will see sporadic sprinkles or light rain showers again. Travel conditions should be fine on Friday morning, even though most roads will be wet. There will probably be a small layer of snow by early Friday morning when nighttime temperatures in the Catskills drop near freezing. Untreated roads may be slippery.
On Friday, there may be a few isolated showers during the day, but the rain will not be consistent until after supper. On Saturday, it will continue until about daybreak and may produce more than an inch of rain. The Catskills may see another round of rain and light snow in the early hours of Saturday morning. Any snow that does stay won’t persist long; overall, two-day snow totals will be low.
We’ll return to wet weather on Saturday, with light rain showers, drizzle, or passing mist. There won’t be any cancellations of athletic events or other activities because the day won’t be a washout, but it will be cold, overcast, and wet, much like last weekend. It might be wise to have an umbrella and a rain jacket nearby.
It will be a drier weekend since the system causing the gloom will leave by Sunday. Although there may likely be some residual clouds, you won’t want an umbrella. We could even catch a glimpse of the sun by the late afternoon.
Branch Brook Park’s Cherry Blossom Festival concludes this weekend. Sunday will be a better day to travel if you’re going that way. In addition to the drier sky, temperatures will rise but still be quite cold. This gentle warm-up previews what we’ll do next week, but you’ll need a jacket.
Even if they might not arrive in time for the weekend, Monday marks the return of the warmer and brighter days. March-like temperatures swiftly give way to May-like ones, with highs reaching 70 degrees by Tuesday.
