Western New York Freeze Warning Loss in 20s and Snow Showers Near Lake Ontario Through April 17

Snow Showers Near Lake Ontario Through April 17 and Loss in the 20s

Temperatures in western New York will drop into the 20s and low 30s until Thursday morning so homeowners can expect a chilly night.

The Buffalo National Weather Service predicts that while persistent snow showers are anticipated east of Lake Ontario, skies will start to clear tonight. Light snow accumulations might be seen in places like Tug Hill and the western Adirondacks, making the roadways treacherous by morning. The weather alert is still in force from Wednesday at 8 p.m. until Thursday at 10 a.m.

Winds will also be an issue; gusts could reach 30 mph barely in the evening before fading overnight. It will be significantly cooler tonight than earlier in the week, with lows in the mid-20s expected in cities including Buffalo, Rochester, and Jamestown.

During morning commutes, drivers in snow-prone areas should exercise caution, particularly in areas where cloud cover persists. It is recommended that residents restrict their exposure and wrap up during the coldest hours. There won’t be any heavy snowfall, but there might be hazardous patches.

This cold blast comes after a brief period of better spring weather and represents a significant drop below seasonal norms, particularly for mid-April.
