Tornado Warning Issued Today for Rock Island and Moline as Severe Weather Threatens Quad Cities
As radar suggests a potential tornado moving through the area this evening, a warning has been issued for portions of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island.
According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities, the warning is still in force through Sunday at 8:45 p.m. CDT. Communities including Riverdale, Blue Grass, Milan, and Buffalo Prairie are impacted; the impacted region includes significant portions of Rock Island County in Illinois and Scott County in Iowa.
Although no hail is anticipated, the alert states that a tornado has been radar-indicated. With 73 schools and five hospitals, the alert area has a population of about 231,388 people, necessitating immediate safety precautions for locals.
Local authorities urge anyone in the warning zone to seek shelter immediately, ideally in an internal chamber or basement on the lowest floor of a substantial building. It is highly recommended that those in cars, mobile homes, or the open air relocate to a safer area.
