Virginia Thunderstorm: Up to 1 AM, There is A Chance of 2-inch Hail and Winds of 70 Mph

Through early Tuesday morning, residents of central and northern Virginia are at risk from colossal hail and damaging wind gusts due to a strong line of severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center reports that northern and central Virginia, including Richmond, Staunton, and eastern West Virginia, are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 1 a.m. EDT Tuesday. As supercells continued to move eastward throughout the region, the alarm was issued at 6:50 p.m. on Monday.

Forecasters warn there might be a spread of colossal hail up to two inches in diameter and destructive wind gusts up to 70 mph. Clusters of the heaviest storms, which may move swiftly and develop overnight, are predicted to emerge.

It is recommended that residents stay home and refrain from traveling unless required. Keep windows away, secure outside objects, and watch for possible alerts on local news or NOAA Weather Radio. The National Weather Service warns that intense thunderstorms can sometimes spawn tornadoes without much notice, although they are not currently predicted. As things change during the night, keep an eye out for any updates or emergency alerts until Tuesday morning.
